The Railway will re-open on Easter Sunday and Easter Monday 2017.
Full details for 2017 are now available on our Open Days web page.
The Railway welcomes 2 new engines this season, one for the ground level railway and one for the elevated railway.Harwin
Harwin is based on Lima locomotive works 2-6-2 design from the USA. The Wato engineering castings were imported from Australia a number of years ago, and construction was started by Bill Knox who had completed the chassis and cylinders. After Bill passed away the part completed locomotive moved to Nick and Graham Taylor who were friends of Bill. Harwin was completed in October 2016. Harwin is pictured at Willowbank Station in October 2016 on one of its first running sessions.
King Edward I
GWR 6000 Class 6024 King Edward I was built at GWR's Swindon Works in June 1930, for most of its working life it was allocated to Plymouth Laira MPD. Transferred to Old Oak Common MPD, London, in March 1959, and finally to Cardiff Canton TMD in 1962.
This 5" Gauge scale model model is relatively new, and worked very well when run earlier in the year. King Edward I is pictured on our railway in February 2017 just after steaming up for its turn of duty.
Malden and District Society of Model Engineers Ltd. is located in Thames Ditton Surrey. Our miniature railway is known as the Thames Ditton Miniature Railway. The ground level railway is for the large scale trains. The elevated railway is for the smaller scale trains. We hope you will be able to visit us during the year and enjoy the atmosphere of the railway. We have been running passenger trains on the miniature railway for for over 66 years.
Volunteering / Membership
Would you like to help? We are looking for a wide range of volunteers general maintenance to driving.
The Railway is run solely by a group of dedicated volunteers and is open for train rides from Easter till October. Trains run on the the first Sunday of each month. On Bank Holiday weekends we also run the trains on the Sunday and Bank Holiday Monday. Our volunteers can often be found working on the railway at other times.
We are always looking for more volunteers who would like to get involved. Whether you wish to be a Driver, Guard, Platform Duties, Signalman, Engineering or just help with the maintenance, you will be working alongside a friendly group of volunteers sharing the same experience.
